Cinco de Mayo: Facts, Meaning & Celebrations - HISTORY

We invite you to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the music of Mexico. So please enjoy a brief musical journey from the ranchos, to the playas, and ciudades of Mexico. (a mix of traditional, contemporary, country, and dance) from the comfort and security of your home.

When the demographic growth of the Latino population became notable in the 1980s, corporations and event planners noticed, and started promoting Cinco de Mayo as a day-long happy-hour party encouraging us to down cervezas and margaritas and to celebrate Mexico and her people.

In 2005, US Congress passed a resolution making Cinco de Mayo an official national holiday to celebrate Mexican-American heritage. It’s been customary for presidents to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the White House lawn with margaritas flowing, mariachi music playing, and dancers in brightly colored traditional costumes. ¡Salud!
